today, i watched this wonderful movie "phir milenge"... the second masterpiece by revathy after her first one "mitr-my friend"... very thought provocating and informative... the story line basically focuses on HIV affected people and their right to live their life in the society!! the obvious but still baseless fear of general public towards HIV affected people is well protrayed... the photography, screenplay, and the protrayal of characters is too good! nonetheless, performance by abhishek, silpashetty, and nasser is an added value to the film... hats off to revathy, who has proved herself the best in direction too!!!Monday, April 09, 2007

few observations!!!
life is monotonous and boring these days... after spending around 20 months in this campus, finally the time has come for wrapping up everything and get out/lost!!! only three more months left... the countdown has started... 90... 89... 88... i remember how my senior batch students left this place, smiling (trying hard to conceal their sadness) at us!!! and now, it's our turn to do the same...two days back, i was walking with krishna towards coffee-board... he was damn too silent, and i could hardly resist myself from keeping a grinning face... i asked him, "shall i tell you a fact?"... coming out of his thoughts, he looked at me with an affirmative look, curious to listen what i was about to tell... i told, "indira gandhi was shot dead by her body gaurd"... he was so annoyed and cursed me with his usual words "worssst felloooooow" and started laughing... a bad joke, but it worked!!!
last week, i happened to watch the movie "the pursuit of happyness"... it was truly inspiring story... at that very moment, i have decided... decided to work hard, really hard to become great!!! after that, i thought why shouldn't i start working from tomorrow? and that tomorrow has not yet arrived!!! and i strongly doubt whether it will arrive at all ;-)
yesterday, after a very small nap of 4 hours in the afternoon, i went to our gymkhana terrace, with an intention to watch sunset... by the time i reached there, sun was still bright enough to stop me staring at him... my eyes caught a beautiful girl sitting on the stadium steps (incidentally, with marvelous curves), and i kept watching her... after a while, i realized that i was not watching sunset and turned back... sunset is over already... still, it was a beautiful evening!!!

rubik's revenge!!!
since long, i was having fun solving rubik's cube... it is always fun to kill time trying to solve it in the minimum possible time... it took one month for me to understand the logic by myself, and to solve it for the first time... so far, my best solution time is 2minutes 15seconds... the world record is 10.48 seconds!!! amazing enough to blink our eyes, right??? recently, when i was watching Will Smith's new movie The pursuit of happyness, i felt sudden love for my good old game... incidentally, i came to know that there are extended versions of the same game with 4x4x4 (Rubik's revenge) and 5x5x5 (Professor's cube)... just for a change,
i wanted to try the next level, the Rubik's revenge, and tried to find it in Bangalore... after 4 or 5 hours of futile search in all the leading shopping malls and toy stores, i tried to buy it online... but, no seller is ready to ship it to India... can somebody help me in this regard?Updates: I have finally solved Rubiks revenge yesterday (24th April 2011). And, the latest price of this, on ebay, is around 19 dollars.

my balcony friend!!!
here is a squirrel (my friend from today!), which often visits my balcony... this morning, it was fighting with its enemy making big sounds... whenever i see this one jumping from one branch to other branch, swinging its tail in its own elegant way, it is interesting to watch how active it is... after all, it is just a squirrel... but, to me, it seems like a philosopher reminding me how to live life happily... :-) i tried to capture it closely, but no luck...Sunday, March 11, 2007
Man, Woman and Child...
Finally, i have finished reading Man, woman and child... a touching story by ERICH SEGAL in his usual and charming style of depicting human relations highly filled with emotions and sentiments... the MAN in the story Bob is happily married with two kids... one fine day he comes to know about a child born to another lady with whom he had a brief affair some ten years ago, who is dead and the kid is left with nobody to take care of him... the story goes on how the MAN and his wife (WOMAN), and the boy (CHILD) go through the emotional crisis to their family... the way the author projected the innocence and perceptiveness of the child is too good... a good novel worth reading... though i have the movie (hindi) version of the same story MASOOM earlier, i liked this book version of the story very much... in fact, the ending of both versions are quite different... particularly, i liked the way the CHILD bids farewell to the MAN's family and decides to live in the way his mother wished!!! hats off to ERICH SEGAL...Saturday, March 10, 2007

Past...
life is going superfast these days with loads of work to finish... and interesting too!!! there is lot of fun and satisfaction in lying on the bed after a day long work... but, what happened to me these days??? struggling at least three to four hours to get sleep after going to bed!!! the reels from the PAST are reemerging from those buried neurons... making me uneasy, unhappy, and uncomfortable!!! if i look back at those sweet memories, i become sad... if i look back at those times of insecurity, i become sadder!!! tired of trying out few things like jogging, watering, aerobics, evening walk etc... and couldn't switch off the PAST... am i guilty? or am i feeling discontent about present life? or do i really lack guts to live in reality? am i not honest? or is it just insomnia that attacked me? friends say it is time to get married!!! is it really so? how can i invite anybody into my life with so much of stupidity and uncertainty? what the hell is this? why am i so confused? i wish i get 'short term memory loss'!!!

snapshots from hell... #1

from the day one we started staying in this institute, we are constantly been encountered with all sorts of shocks and difficulties, which made us call this place as a hell... life is always uncertain here (of course, it is everywhere... but, the degree of uncertainty is very high here), keeping us always in a state of worry and loneliness... a few snapshots from this hell...
being the premier institute, the cream people from all corners of the country enter here with lot of expectations and dreams to achieve... but, more than ninety percent of people lose their confidence/interest in academics just in few months after joining... reasons are yet to be explored!!!
the usual period for a student to finish his phd is four years... but god knows when he will get the degree!!! here too, the reasons are many... bad choice of problem... poor relations with the faculty... or even ill-fate!!! a student who was doing active research for last five years, has lost all his data in a fire accident recently... how valuable is a period of five years in anybody's life? that too in twenties!!!
the key things/findings of the defined problem will be known when the student is about to finish his coursework/research... what next? to explore more or just get off from the place? the choice is often difficult!!! even after successfully cracking the defined problem, the researcher himself will be in confusion to answer the question "why did i do all this?"...
coming to the settlement of life after research... many companies come with specific requirement!!! at the end of the day, everything ends up in playing game with luck... the question "why am i not getting selected?" keeps eating the brain until getting into one or the other lowsy job... by then, the remaining interest/confidence in life dies off!!!
but, at the end of the day, people from this institute are THE best... life is still beautiful and colorful for these students... because, the most difficult stages have been crossed here already!!! this is only one side of the coin... will write about the other half soon!!!

In honor of all those who forward chain mails...

I want to thank all my friends and other unknown people who have forwarded chain letters to me in 2003, 2004 & 2005 and 2006.Because of your kindness:
- I stopped drinking Coca-Cola after I found out that it's good only for removing toilet stains!!!
- I stopped going to the movies for fear of sitting on a needle infected with AIDS!!!
- I smell like a wet dog in a mud puddle since I stopped using deodorants because they cause cancer!!!
- I stopped answering the phone for fear that they may ask me to dial a stupid number and then I get a phone bill from hell with calls to places like Uganda, Singapore and Tokyo!!!
- I stopped drinking water outside for fear that I will get sick from the rat poop and urine!!!
- When I go to parties, I don't look at any girl, no matter how hot she is, for fear that she will take me to a hotel, drug me, then take my kidneys and leave me taking a nap in a bathtub full of ice!!!
- I also donated all my savings to the Amy Bruce account. A sick girl that was about to die in the hospital about 7,000 times. (Poor girl! she's been 7 since 1993...)!!!
- My free Nokia phone never arrived and neither did the free passes for a paid vacation to Disneyland!!!
- Made hundreds of wishes before forwarding pics of Dalai Lama, Ganesh Vandana, Tirupathi Balaji et al. Now, most of those "wishes" are already married (to someone else)!!!
- If ORKUT deletes my account, it's okay and it's MY business. PLEASE DON'T SEND ME "Orkut is deleting accounts: Due to sudden rush..." messages. That makes me NOT want to have an account with friends like you in the first place!!!
IMPORTANT NOTE: If you do not forward this to at least 913760 people in the next 10 seconds, a thousand birds will poop on your head today at 10:30 a.m!!!
Give me a break! And GROW UP!PS: I got this nice mail from one of my good friends, Lalloo... good job Mr.Lallit!!!

3 years... and those sweet memories!!!
Exactly three years back, we have written GATE... the entrance test conducted all over India for admission into post graduate courses in engineering!!! We used to be very ambitious and used to think about one and only one thing... that is to secure a single digit rank in GATE... those days were really wonderful and unforgettable... i cherished those countless number of hours I spent with my study partner and my best friend, discussing about whole bunch of problems, and those jubiliant smiles on our faces when we succeeded!!! we always kept our positions in top first and second in a class of eighty... and that too for all the four years!!!
Finally, we both cracked the exam and secured good ranks... after months of vacillation between higher studies and a lousy software job, we have finally decided for higher studies!!! but, to our badluck, we both got in different institutes... my dreams for further studies are buried now, at least temporarily!!! she got into one of the best openings a chemical engineer can dream of... and i got into one of the best challenging jobs!!!
three years passed... lot of changes have taken place... both personally and academically... that enthusiasm and zeal to achieve something is not at all there... just the memories remained... again the same lines... We always know that looking back on the tears would make us laugh someday. But we never know that looking back at the moments we laughed together would make us cry someday!!!

Love Actually...

Yesterday, I watched this wonderful romantic comedy movie Love Actually... A mix of different realistic situations where people are confused at the start, and ultimately find their soulmates... A prime minister falling in love with his catering manager, a writer falling in love with his house cleaner who belongs to another native language, a sensitive man who silently loves a girl who marries his best friend, and even a school boy who confidently says that he is in love with his schoolmate... well picturized with a backdrop of christmas season... "Love actually is all around" is the caption!!! I really loved this movie...
With the valentine's day approaching, all radio channels are flooding us with loads of romantic songs... 'thoo bin bathaaye mujhe lekar chal kahin', 'dil ne tujhko chun liya hai, tum bhi is ko chuno na', 'tere bind zindagi se koi shikwa nahin', 'tere bin main yum kaise jiya, kaise jiya tere bin', 'aate jaate, hanste gaate'... and the list goes on!!! each of these songs has it's own flavor of reminding those good old days, where life is just like a bed of flowers and I haven't experienced any pain of separation ever... i liked these lines of nariyalchutney in his post eX... "We always know that looking back on the tears would make us laugh someday. But we never know that looking back at the moments we laughed together would make us cry someday"... With each day passing, our perspective about true relationship may change, but the feeling/soft-corner for those eX's will always be there... of course, many will not admit it!!!
Wherever we are, however we are, and whoever with us... loving somebody makes us feel complete!!! someday, we will say "You can't imagine how beautiful my world has become eversince you walked into it... with you be my side, I am the luckiest person on the earth".
life is beautiful... love actually makes it more beautiful... love actually is all around!!!

more or less... a paradox!!!
the more we expect out of life, the less we get...
the more we try to forget, the less we succeed...
the more we try to sleep, the less we get sleep...
the more we compare, the less valuable we become...
the more we demand, the less we get...
the more we try to understand, the less we know...
the more we read, the less we remember...
the more we know, the less we feel we know...
the more we try to remember, the less we remember...
the more we love someone, the less we get from them...
the more we try to be happy, the less content we become...
the more we try to be on top, the less we stay there...
the more we crave for company, the less we enjoy life...
more or less... a paradox!!!
strange but true!!!

i got a job... hurray!!!

after successfully screwing up three successive interviews, i am finally successful in getting a job... of course, i told a few lies to the interview panel this time, which i didnt do during previous interviews... incidentally, it worked... i told that i am not at all interested in further studies, and seriously want to go for a research job... partly, this is true as well as false... right now, i dont want to go for higher studies... as well, i dont want to stick to some company for my entire life... so, there ends my job search, fetching me an opening in Computational Research Labs, a Pune based company, started by a renowned scientist in association with some retired professors from IITs... I am more than happy that there is no uncertainty, at least for the coming year... anyone who is interested in working for High Performance Computing or interested in developing application software, you may contact Dr.Sateesh at email id: asateesh@c-r-labs.com

success and failure!!!
placement fever has caught everybody in the campus... everyone is dreaming about securing a good job... some people are optimistic, some are doubtful, and some are literally becoming maniacal thinking about all sorts of possibilities... here am i, one of those optimistic group... i was happy when i was told that i was shortlisted for the final interview of SHELL, one of the best companies we dream to get in, and offering a huge package of 12 lakh per annum... though my initial expectations out of placement cell is to get a decent job to spend an year in industrial environment before plunging into research, i was really allured (in fact, went deeper than that and started dreaming about it) and started building my expectations... that made me bear three sleepless nights... finally, the D-day has come and i went with myself fully prepared... the first round was really wonderful... we were given a real time problem, and asked to find out the best solution with support for the solution... i thought i have done decently well... in my batch, totally six candidates were interviewed... after the interview, all of us were sitting in the lobby waiting for the results... one of the company officials came and called three names... i was not in the three... i was curious... but, that list was of disqualified candidates... i made a sigh, and thought that i was shortlisted... those three went with a blank expression, without forgetting to wish us all the best... after some time, two others sitting with me were called for the second round... i wished them good luck with a smiling face (there is still hope on me)... after some more time of restless waiting, i have inquired whether i am shortlisted or not... that lady, with an unusually pleasant face, told me "sorry Mr.Venkat, you are not needed for the next round"... so, there ends the story... i have successfully screwed up my first interview... i was walking on the footpath, making my way to hostel mess... i wish i have somebody to accompany me... but still, i smiled... smiled openly... success and failure, both are two sides of a coin... both are equally important... a success is not complete until we know the pain/experience of tasting a failure... i am successful!!! successful in keeping my cool... yes, i am successful... failed successfully... and succeeded in accepting the failure with a smile!!!Thursday, January 11, 2007
to learn how to swim, jump into the pool!!!

i was in my bed... dreaming... dreaming that you are with me... you were sitting besides me... on the same bench... resting your head on the desk... waiting for me to solve the problem... closing your eyes... you look so relaxed... that i am there to solve the things... i was looking into the pages... trying how best i can solve the problem... i did it... then i looked at you... at your cheeks... so smooth with a tinge of pink color... looked at your closed eyes... so innocent... so confident... i was wondering... what if you leave me someday... leaving me all alone... months rolled... and you left me... no, you didn't... time has brought these things... even before i noticed that... what happened next?... i don't know... don't know what am i doing... what am i supposed to do... don't know how to do even the simplest thing on the earth... what happened to me?... where is the energy gone?... what happened to my strengths?... all of them are with you... in you... leaving me as an empty shell... shell of no value... no beauty... no strength... days passed... passed like years... life became miserable... miserable without you... without you giving me the strength... the courage... the confidence... but still... life is going... going on... now i realized... realized that i should learn... learn to live alone... live alone with myself... an individual myself... strong... confident... bold... enthusiastic... and cheerful... those lonely nights... nights without sleep... sleeps without dreams... dreams without colors... colors without brightness... told me the truth... the truth that i should start... start living life... a beautiful life... colorful life... yes... i should... to learn swimming... i should jump into a pool... yes... i am in a pool now... learning how to live... how to live a life... without you... without anybody... with confidence... with liveliness... with energy... i know... i know it is hard... harder than anything... but still... i should... so am i!!!

fivepointsomeone!!!
It is almost seven months after I started this blog... found many good things, interesting views, and different aspects of human emotions!!! I was tagged by aprilslady, a happy news... here, i am adapting (stealing ;-) her concept of fivepoints...
1. I am incredibly moody, unpredictably demanding, and yet cool, jovial, and caring... Sometimes, people around me feel like I am the oddest guy with stupidity personified... But, only a few could understand the reason (or beauty) in me being so!!!
2. I am one of those who prefer melody to bass, sensible movies rather than science fiction or mystery, and like to be in a small group rather than being in a large crowd and making noise... My rigid but meaningful (that's how i feel, at least) opinions makes my friends circle very small and limited...
3. My life partner should be a little patient, a little sensible, should love me a little, and accept me along with my stupidity... I have learned so many lessons already in searching for the same, but worth learning!!! After all, life is all about learning lessons from experiences and making things better ;-)
4. People often find it very hard to get along with me... But, once they are close enough, they do really enjoy my company... I am more interested in knowing few people in depth than knowing many people just for the sake... Small and beautiful is my policy in making friends... Hypocrisy, and back-stabbing is what i hate in people...
5. I would like to watch sunset sitting along the lake side or river banks than to go for a movie or a crazy party... I like lonely strolls amidst lovely scenery... I like to sleep cuddled in my rug in a cold night as well as roaming around during those chillingly cold nights... I love moonlight, coffee, sunset, candle-light dinner, photography, and romantic songs!!!

birds of different feather flocking together!!!
One of my dearest friends is getting married soon... Here is where I have seen the best wedding invitation that could be written in a most unconventional and romantic fashion... I have been always a fan to this guy called Purna widely known as chandoo, and he is crossing another important milestone in his life... I wish you a joyful and romantic married life Mr.Chandoo!!!
